Tips for great getting ready photos and video

Tips for great getting ready photos and video

One important wedding day decision that you might overlook at first is where you will be getting ready. Maybe you always dreamed about walking down the stairs of your family home in your wedding dress, or maybe you prefer the bridal suite at your wedding venue since it’s the simplest option. A nearby hotel or Airbnb could also be a great choice. Here are some things to consider before deciding.

Tip No. 1. Think about light. A spacious room with windows and natural light are the best. Floor to ceiling windows are a dream! We arrive and turn off floor lamps and overhead lights to avoid having a mixed light situation. We don’t want a yellow cast from those lights on your gorgeous dress and photo-ready makeup.

Tip No. 2. Bring the right tools. If your dress has a lot of buttons, and your bridesmaid has a fresh manicure, a crochet hook can save the day. Cutting the tags off of the dresses will be a lot easier with scissors. And make sure you have a friend or two who knows how to tie a bow tie or neck tie and fold a pocket square for the guys.

Tip No. 3. Set aside your details. Shoes, jewelry, invitation suite. Since we like to include your florals in photo and video, talk to your florist about when flowers will be delivered, and to where. Think about your dress hanger; it doesn’t have to be customized with your name and date, but we also don’t want it to be a flimsy plastic or wire hanger. A simple wooden hanger is perfect! [Need help finding a florist? We’ve got suggestions for you on our Contact page.]

Bonus tip: Assign someone to be a “tidy-up” person. When we arrive, we do our best to clear away water bottles, coffee cups, and bras! But it’s great when someone else is thinking about what might pop up in the background of your photos and video.
